Tea Time: Cup #1
A Little Cup of Teaching Tips & Tricks
Review Card Sets
Since we are in testing season, my first Tea Time teaching tip is review card sets. For my AP Calculus AB class, I created these card sets on metal rings. Each set has multiple-choice and free response problems for a particular topic. Students can grab a set from the board and work on them in small groups or independently. Each card has an answer key and/or scoring guide on the back. I use these as an alternative to the traditional stations or Seek and Solve activity. I like how I can easily hang them up using magnetic clips on the board.
Our school has Mav Time, which is an activity period lunch hour. The students can choose to attend 30 minute activities or lunch during that time. During test prep season, I offer AP Calculus AB Study Group as my activity. When students sign up for the study group activity, they are welcome to work independently, in small groups, or with my help. I leave the review card sets up on the board for them if they would like to work on a particular topic. The cards are a great resource for the students as they prepare for the AP exam.
